How We Impact the Community

The OtterBots engage young people in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders to consider careers in these fields. Every year, the student-led team designs, builds, and programs a robot in six to eight weeks to compete in Regional FIRST Robotics Competitions. We conduct outreach in the community to promote STEM and recruit new members, reaching an average of 300 youth a year. We are mentored by local engineers and professionals. Students gain hands-on experience in engineering, science, business planning, and community engagement. As a result, they develop problem-solving, leadership, business, public speaking, coaching, and communication skills. FIRST strives to provide students with the necessary skills to become the next leaders in our community and beyond.

Testimonial

As an OtterBots member I have learned many skills, such as programming in Java, team leadership, and community engagement. This team is an excellent opportunity for learning and fun for the youth of the Napa Valley. I’ve gained valuable experiences for college and inspiration for my future career!
