How We Impact the Community

Napa CART’s mission is to 1) educate the public on the animal component of disaster preparedness, response and recovery; 2) assist Emergency Services in sheltering, evacuation and care of animals during a disaster; and 3) train first responders, veterinary professionals and community volunteers in animal rescue and trauma care. We train emergency responders how to help community animals in disasters.

We provide education and tools (checklists, emergency contact information, animal care items) for animal caretakers and pet owners to help them prepare for their animals should a disaster occur.  We provide a community support network during local disasters to help community members and emergency services get animals to safety.

Our highly trained volunteers are also able to help care for animals that were unable to evacuate and work closely with Napa CERT in these efforts. Our volunteers have helped shelter and care for thousands of animals during past wildfire events. During the high fire risk season, we set up shelter sites ready to accept large animals and partner with Napa County Animal Shelter for sheltering companion animals.

In relation to the participation of Napa CART in the Sonoma County Disaster Exercise, KRON said “now with CART teams, people can keep themselves safe knowing their animals will be cared for.”
