How We Impact the Community
Formed 104 years ago, the national League of Women Voters (LWV) has over 750 member state and local Leagues. The grassroots nonprofit believes that the freedom to vote is a right that must be protected and encouraged. It promotes informed and active participation in government, helps to increase our understanding of local, state, and national social and legislative issues, and influences policy changes through community education and advocacy.
Locally, LWVNapaCounty makes democracy work by educating voters, providing nonpartisan election information, and advocating for important community issues, often partnering with coalitions or other nonprofits. During election years, we hold nonpartisan and unbiased bilingual candidate forums and pro/con programs on ballot propositions. Volunteers disseminate free resources throughout the community to educate voters and register people to vote, including high school/college students, seniors, and new citizens.

Volunteer opportunities:
- Organize nonpartisan forums for major local candidate races
- Disseminate LWVC bilingual materials on pros/cons of state propositions and lead discussion groups to learn about them
- Lead discussion groups for community groups/residents to learn about ballot measures
- Preregister and register high school and college students and provide election information with videos and classroom presentations
- Make free election and voter information available at farmers markets and public events
- Present community programs on League-supported social issues
- Be active in coalitions advocating for positive social change
- Relate local concerns to those of the region, state, and nation
